ENGLISH 4, HONORS

Introduced Canterbury Tales Part 2 vocabulary.
Choice of reading or vocabulary work.

Reminder of the writing assignment at the end of the Tales: students should focus in depth on one of three areas from the DEJ notes, to use in an in-class essay on:
  • Elements of Medieval Romance forms--ironic and not ironic
  • Corrupt clergy and/or versions of Christianity vs. sincere practices of Christianity
  • Chaucer and negative depictions of women (or are they?)
Continued reading The Canterbury Tales.  Finished reading The Friar; discussed and added notes to character logs and DEJs.

Read The Oxford Cleric and asked students to work with a partner to

  • Identify how Chaucer regards this character
  • Answer the question in the margin on page 151
  • Complete the character description notes and DEJ on this character
