Choice of reading or vocabulary work.
Reminder of the writing assignment at the end of the Tales: students should focus in depth on one of three areas from the DEJ notes, to use in an in-class essay on:
- Elements of Medieval Romance forms--ironic and not ironic
- Corrupt clergy and/or versions of Christianity vs. sincere practices of Christianity
- Chaucer and negative depictions of women (or are they?)
Read The Oxford Cleric and asked students to work with a partner to
- Identify how Chaucer regards this character
- Answer the question in the margin on page 151
- Complete the character description notes and DEJ on this character
