Reviewed the DEJ notes on elements of Old English culture and poetry from "Caedmon of Whitby" (84--86).
COLLECTED the notes.
Watched short clip of Professor Sam Newton, performing Caedmon's hymn and explaining its significance in Old English poetry.

Introduced Anglo-Saxon vocabulary unit on Quizlet. Quiz Friday!
COLLECTED illustrations for Beowulf.
Completed notes set, "The Lowly Raised Up," on motifs in Anglo-Saxon literature that reflect the rise of Christianity.
Distributed DEJ forms for "Caedmon of Whitby" and discussed elements we are seeking: quotes to reflect how the rise of Christianity and new motifs and values are reflected in this story.
Read "Caedmon of Whitby" (84--86).
Students marked quotes with Post-It notes for 2 DEJ entries; began transcribing DEJ entries to share tomorrow.

HOMEWORK: Read "Reflecting on the Literary Period" (83).
