ENGLISH 4, HONORS

Canterbury Tales Vocabulary Quiz.

Reviewed the use of Character Notes and Double Entry Journal notes on The Canterbury Tales; students are to find one example of each element listed (except characterization through physical description) by the end of the poem.

Introduced the writing assignment at the end of the Tales: students should focus in depth on one of three areas from the DEJ notes, to use in an in-class essay on:

  • Elements of Medieval Romance forms--ironic and not ironic
  • Corrupt clergy and/or versions of Christianity vs. sincere practices of Christianity
  • Chaucer and negative depictions of women (or are they?)

Continued reading The Canterbury Tales.  Read The Squire, The Yeoman, The Nun (aka The Prioress) and The Monk.  Discussed characters and added them to notes.

DUE DATES

FRIDAY, November 18: Quiz on Canterbury Tales Vocabulary (Prolog through Doctor).
